What You'll Get
When planning a night out with the girls, an interactive musical provides a better bonding experience than mixed martial scrapbooking and eating bon-bons while watching Das Boot. Gather the gals and make man-free memories with today's Groupon: for $27, you get one orchestra-seat ticket (a $55 value) to Girl Talk: The Musical at The Midtown Theatre @ Ha! Comedy Club NYC in Midtown. The show runs February 11 through March 27, with performances on Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.
An estrogen-enthused brain-hatchling from the creator of Girls Night: The Musical, Girl Talk tells the tale of three sassy radio personalities celebrating their last night on the air and discovering the true meaning of friendship. Girl Talk's dramaturgical divas spice their two-hour dialogue with a heel-tapping host of hit songs from Jennifer Lopez, Aretha Franklin, Carrie Underwood, and The Pointer Sisters. When not rousing the crowd with empowering pop tunes, the cast regales audiences with guffaw-inducing gossip about sex, food, babies, men, and Stephen Hawking's controversial theories about cosmological physics and wearing white after Labor Day. Audience members are encouraged to participate by singing along, clapping, or dancing in the aisles. The talented cast get so into their roles that they often stay in character throughout intermission, which can make for remarkably bloody Richard III adaptations, but transforms Girl Talk into a primo bachelorette party activity.
- Girl Talk the Musical, now at the Midtown Theatre, is a fun little show, perfect for bachelorette parties, birthday parties, or just an enjoyable evening out with the ladies. – Iris Wiener, Theater Mania
