The Issue: Vacations for Kids with Life-Threatening Illnesses
For children dealing with life-threatening illnesses, time spent playing and simply being a kid is often replaced with stressful medical treatments and survival. The Give Kids The World village, a 70-acre resort located near some of central Florida’s most popular and beloved attractions, hosts children with life-threatening illnesses and their families for cost-free vacations.
The Campaign: Providing Daily Gifts for Visiting Families
If 30 people donate $10, then Give Kids The World can give 150 wish families surprise gifts each day of their weeklong stay at the Give Kids The World resort. The resort’s “gift fairy” distributes gifts to sick children and their siblings who are visiting the resort, which the children discover upon returning to their family’s villa at the end of a fun-filled day. Each additional $300 raised will be used to provide these daily gifts to another 150 wish families.

Give Kids The World
When Amy, a little girl with leukemia, was unable to fulfill her wish to visit Orlando’s theme parks before she passed away, hotelier Henri Landwirth vowed that he’d never let a child in need’s wish go unfilled again. So he enlisted his colleagues in the hospitality and theme-park industries to help him make his vow a reality. His idea, Give Kids The World, expanded to a 70-acre resort village with more than 140 villa accommodations for wish children and their families, plus entertainment attractions and fun activities specially designed for children with special needs. The organization works with wish-granting organizations, such as Make-A-Wish Foundation, to fulfill any wishes to visit Orlando-area theme parks. In 2011, more than 7,000 wish children and their families from all 50 states and 25 countries visited the resort for a cost-free vacation.
