The Singers

  • Mika Mendes: known as the “Romeo of the Kizomba world,” this singer brings the Angolan music form known for its romantic rhythms and Portuguese lyrics to the festival’s stage, crooning alongside his Cape Verde band and stirring the crowd to dance.
  • Jerry Rivera: he’s the Puerto Rican salsa singer who was signed by CBS’s music department when he was just 14, earning him the nickname “el bebé de la salsa.” Since then, he’s released 20 albums, earned both Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, and acted as a judge on Idol Puerto Rico.
  • Toby Love: what happens when you take traditional bachata and fuse it with R & B, hip-hop, and crunk? You get the music of Toby Love, a singer-songwriter who launched his eclectic solo career after singing backup for bachata band Aventura.

The Dancers

  • Baila Conmigo Teen Team: these young stars show off the dance moves that landed them on America’s Got Talent.
  • Gringuito & Gata: they’re a bachata-and-kizomba dancing duo and the founders of the festival.
  • Earl Rush: he’s a salsa-and-mambo star who created StuckOnSalsa.com, which is one of the top 10 salsa websites in the world.
  • Dicky Colon: someone needs to choreograph salsa superstar Jerry Rivera’s dance moves, and Dicky Colon is the quick-footed dancer for the job.

The Workshops

  • French-style kizomba footwork and styling, August 14 at 5 p.m.: learn this dance type from Bachata Diva and Florian Tep.
  • Stiletto movement and styling, August 15 at 3 p.m.: Sarah Zuccaro teaches students how to make dancing in extreme heels look effortless.
  • NY Mambo Night Club turn combinations, August 16 at 10 a.m.: New York City’s Garry Portugal schools participants on dance moves appropriate for mambo nightclubs or particularly sensual produce aisles.
  • Latin-funk merengue and reggaeton, August 17 at 3 p.m.: the MG Dance Company takes over this workshop.
