Much Ado About Nothing
One of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, Much Ado About Nothing spins a dizzying web of romantic and marital intrigue that forms a background for crackling verbal wit. Returning triumphant from war, Prince Don Pedro and his band of soldiers stop at a wealthy landowner’s estate to unwind and instruct their assistants to hold any messenger pigeons. Young soldier Claudio quickly falls in love with Hero, the estate owner’s daughter. Meanwhile, however, confirmed bachelor Benedick trades barbs with Hero’s cousin, Beatrice, while barely concealed attraction bubbles beneath the surface. The arcadian idyll threatens to come apart at the seams when Don Juan—Don Pedro’s illegitimate brother who got his dad’s evil genes—conspires to ruin Claudio and Hero’s wedding.<p>
