A Broadway Christmas
You don’t have to wait for a holiday to catch a musical-theatre legend in action—but it’s certainly a nice excuse to do so. Sometimes called “The First Lady of Musical Theatre,” Elaine Paige O.B.E. not only originated the role of Grizabella in Cats and the title role in Evita, she has recorded 18 albums (including four multi-platinum records) and received the Order of the British Empire for her services to Musical Theatre. Now this legend joins the American Pops Orchestra—as well as Matt Doyle of Book of Mormon and Julia Goodwin of America’s Got Talent—for an evening of carols and classics. Accompanied by stunning strings and brass, she’ll belt out holiday favorites, such as “O Holy Night” and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” as well as more unexpected tunes, such as “We Need a Little Christmas” and “No Baby, Seriously, It’s Really Cold Outside—Like Negative 40 or Something.”
The American Pops Orchestra
The American Pops Orchestra has an awfully lofty goal: to develop and inspire a new audience through its music. Fortunately, it's smart enough to bring a few friends along to help. The orchestra and its rising-star conductor, Luke Frazier, regularly reach out to some of the music world's most influential artists to create one-of-a-kind programs. Previous and future collaborators include music-theatre legends Christine Ebersole, Elaine Paige, and Chita Rivera; indie-music icon Rufus Wainwright; and Tony Award–winner (and star of The Good Wife) Alan Cumming.
