A Mother’s Cry Against Violence
In the face of unfathomable loss, Tiffany Goodman decided to make a difference. The day after her son Ste’von, a high-school senior, visited a Navy recruiter, he was gunned down in what the police have determined to be a case of mistaken identity. That the murder remains unsolved would be painful enough, but Goodman believes the silence of the community allows the killer to remain at large. Out of this mountainous grief emerged A Mother’s Cry Against Violence, a howl for justice that aims to empower citizens to speak out against violent crime and chaos. Based on the actual events surrounding her son’s death, the play portrays the aftermath that should have been, putting Ste’von’s killer, known only as “The Perpetrator” on trial, and following his reaction when his own loved ones are murdered. Performers include Grammy-nominated R&B star Angie Stone and Goodman herself, who takes the stand to plea in agony for someone, anyone, to speak up.
