In The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged), three dapperly leotarded men take on all 37 of the Bard’s plays, with varying degrees of accuracy, over 97 uproarious minutes. Actors Theater’s Tom Reed, Neil Schneider, and Nathan Tylutki inject pop-culture references and sarcastic asides into the parade of rapid-fire courtships and ironic deaths. Filled with improvisations and audience participation, the play economizes by blending all the comedies together, condensing Macbeth into a single duel, and stripping all the inessential elements from Titus Andronicus to leave a humanitarian-minded cooking show. The second act consists entirely of variations on the play’s record-breaking Hamlet, which clocks in at just 43 seconds. Crystal chandeliers and modern lamps illuminate Camp Cabaret’s lush leather couches, multicolored bar stools, and pale green walls as audiences order from the bar and knock back an evening enlivened by thrilling plot lines.
Actors Theater of Minnesota
Although it’s known for comedies such as the two-man, 24-character A Tuna Christmas, Actors Theater of Minnesota also places a significant emphasis on education and corporate training. At The Creative Institute, the ensemble trains students how to work theatrical media such as improv and writing into their everyday problem-solving skills.
