The Scouting Report
In games against the Utah Grizzlies on December 6th and 7th, Aces goalie Olivier Roy posted back-to-back shutouts. The Aces not only won both games, but the team extended a stingy defensive streak of 149 minutes and 32 seconds without allowing a single puck or holiday ham to slide into their net. Such lock-down play shouldn't come as a surprise, since the Aces have given up just 30 goals through their first 19 games, by far the lowest in the ECHL. Fans can witness the Aces' D in action during their choice from 14 home games over the coming weeks. They can also enjoy off-the ice promotions, such as Hawaiian night on December 21st or a New Year's Eve celebration with free cupcakes and noisemakers for everyone in attendance.
Alaska Aces
In 2006—just three seasons after joining the ECHL—the Alaska Aces became the second team in league history to win both the Brabham Cup for most points during the regular season and the Kelly Cup as playoff champions. To make sure the league truly knew who they were, or perhaps because they thought they left their spare locker room keys inside one of the Cups, the Aces won both again in 2011. That consistent play has helped the team build a loyal following, a fact that's impossible to ignore as fans clang their cowbells in support during games at Sullivan Arena. Mascot Boomer the polar bear does his part to rile up crowds by strutting around the arena and getting fans on their feet for every home contest.
