When Alchemy Improv Comedy’s four-piece company isn’t sharing the tricks of its trade during improv classes, it’s splitting sides with off-the-cuff shows at Coffee Underground. Each Friday night, the 8 p.m. slot sees a rotation of show styles, such as Dual Duel, in which the quartet splits into teams of two that duke it out for the most laughter from the audience, and Scared Scriptless, in which a guest actor provides his own scripted lines and the improv players scramble to build a coherent scene. Other shows include family improv comedy games, play-like improv comedy shows, stand-up comedy, and sketch comedy. The weekly Local Legends show at 9:30 p.m. beckons a local comedian, musician, or other guest celebrity on stage to share a story that will later become the basis of the night’s fully improvised scenes, which have included awkward relationship tales and recurring nightmares of getting trapped in a stuffy guitar case. Alchemy Improv Comedy also offers classes and summer camps.
