The Scouting Report

As the two-time defending champions of the CHL, the Americans packed up and left their original league this past offseason for the icy pastures of the ECHL. While members of the CHL, the Americans never missed the playoffs. Despite a new stable of opponents this season, it seems to be business as usual. Through nine games, the Americans are 6-3-0 and atop their division with 12 points. Oddly enough, the team’s leading scorer thus far is a newcomer, too. Instead of etching a personalized poem into each of his teammates’ sticks, though, right wing Jack Combs has won the hearts of his fellow Americans by recording 15 points, which is tied for second-most in the league.

Allen Americans

Legions of red, white, and blue-swathed fans fill the Allen Event Center to watch the Americans deliver board-shaking checks and high-octane slap shots on the ice below. A minor-league affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, the Allen Americans skate their way around competition of the ECHL.

A relatively young franchise—they first competed in the 2009–10 season—the Americans immediately established themselves as a playoff contender, advancing to the championship series in 2010. Finally, in 2013, the Americans won the elusive Ray Miron’s President Cup. They followed that championship with another in 2014 before skating out of the CHL and into the Western Conference of the ECHL.
