Contrary to popular belief, all the world is not a stage—sometimes people just say things to get attention. See an actual stage with this GrouponLive deal to see Altar Boyz at the Lower Ossington Theatre. For $45, you get two tickets for general-admission seating to any performance from Friday, July 20, to Sunday, September 9 (a $90 value). Groupons must be redeemed for tickets by Monday, July 9.

Staged as the final concert of the Raise the Praise tour, Altar Boyz stars five small-town friends––Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham––who join musical talents to become a picture-perfect pop group, believing it's their destiny to save the world one fan at a time. The fivesome converts fans with choreographed dancing and one infectious pop hook after another in songs such as the abstinence anthem “Girl, You Make Me Wanna Wait” and the hip-shaker “Rhythm in Me.” In “The Calling,” melodies harmonize as the boys profess: "Jesus called me on my cell phone / no roaming charges were incurred." Throughout the performance, the Boyz repeatedly check their on-stage "Soul Sensor DX-12" that displays the number of heavy souls in attendance, with a goal of making the reading drop to zero.

Altar Boyz, which spent five years off-Broadway, parodies model boy bands such as the Backstreet Boys, ‘NSync, or Tom Brokaw's Funky Bunch, yet as they do, they make the audience forget it's watching a spoof. The New York Times admitted that the passion of the performance and the sincerity of the songs softens the tongue-in-cheek lyrics, making up a show that "sends you home with a smile."

I love the lower ossington theatre and have attended a number of their productions. I really enjoyed little shop of horrors-it was the first time I ever saw it.
