What You'll Do
With your field journal in hand, you'll wander the San Francisco Botanical Garden with artist Andie Thrams, stopping to identify and sketch different plants along the way. Andie will talk about each plant's uses and whether it's edible, giving you notes to combine with your sketches to create intricate, beautiful field journal pages. She'll also share her own field techniques and demonstrate how she captures plant movement and details.

Learn From a Botanical Artist
Andie Thram shares her field techniques through demonstrations and guided experiments
Andie Thrams has kept a journal since childhood. Instead of just text, she fills her pages with illustrations of the outdoors around her. She regularly heads into the wild, trekking through the woods on foot or kayaking from California to Alaska with everything she needs to sketch: ink, watercolor, gouache, pencil, paper, and canvas. She is currently working on two series of artist's books entitled "In Forests" and "Field Studies.”
