What You’ll Do
Humanity trembles in the wake of cold and flu season, but help can be found—and not just at the pharmacy. Herbal alchemist Andrea Mattson introduces students to simple remedies that can be made from ingredients found in the kitchen and garden, and are easy on the wallet. Mattson also thoroughly explains the benefits of medicinal teas, immune-boosting herbs, and other helpful ingredients and foods.
Turn Your Kitchen Into an Herbal Alchemist’s Lab
Expert Andrea Mattson shows you how to craft throat elixirs, healing gargles, and muscle- and sinus-opening rubs using common ingredients around the kitchen.
Harness the Power of Superfoods
Learn about the health-boosting effects of kitchen staples such as honey, sea salt, cayenne, garlic, ginger, and apple cider vinegar.
Andrea Mattson likes to know everything she can about the food on her plate. With her finger on the pulse of Chicago’s locavore movement, Mattson cultivates relationships with new and existing local farmers, which bolsters her role as the manager of Edible Alchemy Foods Co-operative. She is also a member of the Eco Collective in Pilsen, where she hosts workshops and community events that share her passion for gardening, cooking, and medicinal herbs.
