About Aquarium of the Bay
Guests can explore the wonders of the San Francisco Bay ecosystem and join the movement to protect this special place they call home. Aquarium of the Bay at PIER 39 is the home to over 20,000 animals found in and around San Francisco Bay and the California Coast. The 50,000 square foot aquarium features four main exhibit areas:
Discover the Bay introduces guests to eight animal habitats and over a thousand species local to the Bay Area
Under the Bay allows guests to experience what it is like under the bay as they walk through two large tunnels featuring giant seabass, swirling schools of anchovies, and multiple species of sharks, including the Bay’s largest predator – the sevengill shark
Touch the Bay with touchpools offers a tactile interaction with sharks, rays, skates, and sea stars
Otters: Watershed Ambassadors provides a look into river otters' daily activities, such as playing, swimming, romping, and rolling.
Aquarium of the Bay is one of the six institutions of Bay.Org that reaches millions of Bay Area community members and visitors from around the world through education, advocacy, and policy initiatives. Visitors' memberships help Bay.Org lead “free” field trips for 25,000+ students from the Bay Area. The Aquarium of the Bay Memberships also give the bearers admission to the other institutions of Bay.Org, including Sea Lion Center at PIER 39, EcoCenter at Heron’s Head Park, and the Bay Model in Sausalito.
