The Scouting Report
The last time the Rattlers met the San Jose SaberCats, the National Conference title was on the line. The Rattlers claimed it handily and advanced to win their third-consecutive league championship and post-season pizza party during ArenaBowl XXVII. Once again this year, these two teams find themselves among the AFL’s elite. The SaberCats leapt to a 4-0 start this season despite playing all but one of those games on the road. But Arizona’s offense has put up the most points in the conference through Week 4, putting the Rattlers on track for a repeat of last year’s conference championship.
The Arizona Rattlers first took the field in 1992. It didn’t take long to find success. They won their first ArenaBowl two years later, setting a benchmark for ongoing excellence in the franchise. Indeed, the 2010s have seen the growth of a team dynasty even without appointing a quarterback as emperor of Arizona. They have never missed the playoffs or posted fewer than 10 wins this decade. What’s more, they claimed back-to-back-to-back ArenaBowl titles from 2012 to 2014, bringing their franchise total to five.
