In its 10th season, Arizona Roller Derby rolls out a rink’s worth of savage skaters who elbow, knee, and crash into opponents in high-octane bouts. In a double-header on January 26, the Tent City Terrors protect their home oval at Castle Sports Club against the Tucson Roller Derby’s Saddletramps before the green-clad Guadylupes share the floor with the Brawlarinas’ purple tutus. On February 23, the rink will quake under a stampede of skates as the Bad News Beaters attempt to roll over Tucson’s Vice Squad, setting up a men’s battle between the Dallas Deception and the AZMD Rattleskates.
As the season winds down on April 27, the pirate-themed Surly Gurlies try to loot Tucson’s Copper Queens, and the Bruisers, dressed as nurses, regale the crowd with fluid skating and disciplined blocking.
