The Deal

Art Garfunkel

  • Just a few of Art's achievements: six Grammys plus a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Peoples Choice Award, and a Golden Globe nomination
  • How you met him: as a master of harmony in the folk duo of Simon and Garfunkel
  • Words that almost do justice to his voice: rhapsodic, angelic, poetic
  • What casual Garfunkel fans might not know: besides being a beloved singer and songwriter, Art is an accomplished actor and excursion enthusiast
  • Those excursions being: long walks across all of Japan, America, and Europe, during which he wrote poetry
  • Where you discovered Art Garfunkel could act: in 1970's Catch 22
  • Where you discovered that he could be cuckolded by Jack Nicholson, just like the rest of us: in 1971's Carnal Knowledge, a role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination
  • What makes his latest concert so special: acoustic renditions of solo hits and Simon and Garfunkel favorites
  • Prime yourself before the show: with Artie's double-disc release The Singer, which contains all of his career watermarks

State Theatre

The State Theatre was saved, as its website states, from "the ravages of time." Built in 1921 as a vaudeville and silent-film palace, the venue fell on hard times in the 1970s. In 2003, however, a $3 million renovation restored the State Theatre to much of its original glory, as crews painstakingly rehabbed the ornamental plaster, terracotta exterior, and actor holding cells. Inside the theater, a stunning chandelier sparkles more brightly than ever below the venue's signature dome.
