Several of the most influential rap legends of the ’80s and ’90s take the mic for a thumping celebration of foundational beats and timeless verses at the second annual All-Stars of Hip Hop concert. Walking rhyming dictionaries include Grammy winners and pioneering all-female rap act Salt-N-Pepa, whose megahits “Push It,” “Whatta Man,” and “Let’s Talk About Sex” have stood the test of time and endured many a bachelorette karaoke. Multiplatinum rapper and actor DMX shares his dowry of hits, including the infectious “Party Up (Up in Here),” and Doug E. Fresh makes drum machines rend their circuits in dismay with his human-beatbox skills. Big Daddy Kane spouts the brawny verbal dexterity that necessitated the 1988 expansion of the English alphabet, and Black Sheep—the first hip-hop act to perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno—causes heads to bob uncontrollably to their tag-team jam “Flavor of the Month.” Putting the icing on the whoopee pie, Kool Moe Dee evokes old-school heydays with “How Ya Like Me Now,” and Shock-G, aka Humpty Hump of Digital Underground, gets the crowd bumping with favorites such as “Doowutchyalike” and “The Humpty Dance.”

Boardwalk Hall

Under a 137-foot high, barrel vault ceiling, Boardwalk Hall’s floor has played host to historic Garden State moments for more than eight decades. The longest clear span space in the world when it opened in 1929, the venue has seen the nation’s first indoor football game, the first indoor helicopter flight, and performances by such luminaries as the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong. A $90 million renovation completed in 2001 ushered the space into the new millennium, updating the lighting, improving the acoustics, and roping off a section of seats for time-traveling audience members.

Due to security restrictions, G-Passes must be printed out and presented in person at the event. They cannot be redeemed through the mobile app.
