This summer on the Unity Tour 2012, 311 and Slightly Stoopid roll through the continent with their signature reggae beats mixed with spirited thrashing. 311’s five-piece band broke out of Omaha in the mid-‘90s with their blend of upstroke guitar, stadium sensibility, and optimistic lyrics rapped into the microphone by dueling vocalists S.A. Martinez and Nick Hexum. Their triple-platinum, self-titled album scored the first and second spots on the Billboard charts with the power-chorded hip-hop of “Down” and the funky bass of “All Mixed Up.”
Slightly Stoopid throws similar genre-bending beats throughout a discography that stretches back to a self-titled release in 1996. During their live sets, guitar and conga players wander fearlessly along deep grooves to stretch the track in surprising directions, like a walrus trying to shimmy into sweatpants.
