This summer on the Unity Tour 2012, 311 and Slightly Stoopid roll through the continent with their signature trippy reggae beats and distorted guitar thrashing. The five-piece band of 311 broke out of Omaha in the mid-'90s with its blend of sing-along choruses and raspy lyrics, propelled into the microphone by dueling vocalists S.A. Martinez and Nick Hexum. Their triple-platinum, self-titled album scored the first and second spots on the Billboard charts with the guitar-soaked rap of “Down” and the funky bass of “All Mixed Up.”
Slightly Stoopid throws similar rock-laced beats throughout a discography that stretches back to a self-titled release in 1996. During their live sets, guitar and conga players wander fearlessly along deep grooves into rambling jams, stretching the track in surprising directions, like a walrus trying to shimmy into sweatpants. Reggae-roots rockers Soja start the show with upbeat energy and politically tinged anthems.
