What You'll Get
Millions of people worldwide enjoy horse racing, but very few of them actually have the speed, strength, and endurance required to win a race against a horse. Leave horseplay to the professionals with this deal to the Atlanta Steeplechase at Kingston Downs on Saturday, April 14, rain or shine. Gates open at 9 a.m. Choose between the following options:
- For $30, you get two general-admission tickets with free parking (up to a $76.50 value, including all fees).
- For $55, you get four general-admission tickets with free parking (up to a $153 value, including all fees).<p>
Much like Horseshoe Bend, the site of the original Atlanta Steeplechase, Kingston Downs’ bowl-shaped valley rests at the bend of the Etowah River, unfolding across 435 unobstructed acres that overlook the placid shoreline. Regal steeplechase horses flex their flanks during the annual event’s daylong schedule of competitive trots, where jockeys dressed in kaleidoscopic silks attempt to jump steeds over shrub hurdles or 17 school buses.
Pre-race activities include an air show, parade, and ceremonial bagpipers, as well as an opportunity for kids to take in Jack Russell terrier races or leisurely survey the Georgian countryside during pony or camel rides. Admission is free for children 12 and younger at the Atlanta Steeplechase, whose nonprofit organization benefits Camp Southern Ground and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, a school that makes doctors out of gifted young horses.
