Bad With Money

Ben Rimalower doesn’t believe in keeping secrets. In his first one-man show, 2012’s Patti Issues, he used the stage as a confessional, tying his obsession with Broadway’s Patti LuPone to his relationship with his troubled gay father. That show, which was originally slated for five performances, launched Rimalower onto an international tour for more than 14 months. Now, he’s back to publicly exploring the shadowy spaces of himself in Bad With Money—his extremely personal examination of his spending addiction. “Spending money I don’t have is really my drug of choice,” he shares on his website. “And considering how many people suffer from the same problem, it’s staggering how seldom it’s discussed.” Throughout the show, he details how his struggle with debt has dragged him through drug addiction, fraud, betrayal, and prostitution, weaving self-deprecating humor with “tragicomic episodes [that] put the graphic in autobiographical,” according to Time Out.
