In general, this was a fun time. However, I find it insulting that admission was charged which didn't really include very much as far as tasting goes. It included some drinks, but in order to taste from different food trucks, you had to load money that was nonrefundable onto tasting bands. The general experience of the small $3 tasting menus from individual food trucks was fun, but for someone like me, who wants to know how much I am spending beforehand, this event needs an all-inclusive option. In general, it was fun, but VERY expensive. I will not go again unless I win the lottery. Also really enjoyed the life-sized connect four and live music performances, other shopping vendors, and the live cooking show with real chefs. OH and there was a slew of tents to buy food at which did not accept tasting bands, only cash or cards, so if you spent all your planned money on the tasting bands, you couldn't taste anything from these tents! Serious lack of organization on the whole.

I went on Saturday and there were a lot of issues that I hope they worked out. It wasn’t a horrible time, but there are definitely lessons to be learned for next year.

What You'll Get

Reaching toward a country star is a popular way to let them know that, unlike most fans, you appreciate both their musical work and their supple hand skin. Raise the roof with today’s deal: for $16, you get one ticket to see Big & Rich on Saturday, October 8, at Taste of DC (a $32 value).

Country duo Big & Rich meld traditional country roots with eclectic influences from rock, hip-hop, soul, and reggae, blazing a musical trail gilded with nominations and awards since 2004. Known best for the Billboard-scaling single “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)”, the Stetson- and top-hat-sporting pair croon irreverent lyrics and embed social messages entreating audiences to love one another, bringing a blend of benevolence and humor to country music unseen since Willie Nelson stopped doing stand-up comedy at a kitten shelter. The band’s brand-new album features soulful infusions of the sounds of John Legend and Wyclef Jean, and their performance at the bustling Taste of DC will be accompanied by a range of complementary country artists including Marybeth Johnson, singer-songwriter Justin Trawick, Georgia natives Connor Christian & Southern Gothic, and solo artist Chuck Wicks.

The Taste of DC once again sets Pennsylvania Avenue abuzz with the festive hubbub of more than 60 local restaurants and vendors offering tastes of signature dishes, including Ping Pong Dim Sum, Medium Rare, BGR, Sushi Rock, Lincoln, Cafe Bonaparte, Luke’s Lobster, and Amsterdam Falafelshop. Attendees can purchases booklets of tickets ($15 for 10 tickets, not included in this deal) to sample Co. Co. Sala’s four-cheese bacon mac ‘n’ cheese, striped with chocolate-covered bacon (two tickets), or the chocolate-onyx parfait’s stratified layers of dark-chocolate mousse, vanilla crème brûlée, salted caramel, and crumbly dark-chocolate brownies (two tickets). Sips from more than 60 wineries and craft breweries pour the perfect complement to every entree, dessert, and attempt to joust an equestrian statue.

Taste of DC has many more Groupon-featured acts scheduled this weekend, including Rusted Root, Styx, and the World Chili Eating Championship.
