Bootsy Collins and The Funk Unity Band

Clad in multihued top hats and starred sunglasses, Bootsy Collins is a recognizable character before he even begins to lay down his hip-shaking bass grooves. Then his intricate, rubbery bass patterns and shape-shifting, theatrical vocals start up, and crowds stop staring and start dancing. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and former collaborator with James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic, Collins has shaped the backbone of megahits including James Brown’s “Super Bad” and Deee-Lite’s “Groove Is in the Heart.” Backed by The Unity Funk Band, Collins rocks live sets with his custom-made, star-shaped Space Bass in tow, flashing wide grins as he bops along to his dance-floor fillers such as his own “Stretchin’ Out” and Parliament’s “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker).”<p>
