Futures at Fenway

On July 27, up-and-coming Red Sox stars charge into Fenway Park during the eighth-annual “Futures at Fenway” minor-league game. This summer’s installment sees Boston’s Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs, defend Fenway from a siege by the Washington Nationals’ Double-A club, the Harrisburg Senators. From seats in the loge box, fans can scout players such as third baseman Garin Cecchini, whom MLB.com ranked as the eighth-best BoSox prospect entering the 2013 season. Following the game, a free concert featuring Kidz Bop Kids keeps hands clapping, and an autograph session with the Sea Dogs lets fans get close enough to the players to smell the sunflower seeds stuffed in their pockets.

Fenway Park

Having welcomed generations of baseball fans through its gates and having seen six World Series victories—most recently in 2007—Fenway Park still towers above 4 Yawkey Way as baseball’s oldest stadium. Over the course of its 100-year history, Hall of Fame players Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski have called Fenway home. The ballpark includes some of the game’s quirkiest on-field attractions, including the Green Monster in left field and the cavernous triangle in centerfield, where fly balls go to die.
