As the Class-A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Bradenton Marauders showcase the potential future stars of Major League Baseball. In its first two years in the Florida State League, the team has exploded onto the scene, twice capturing the division title for the second half of the split season. As the team pursues its third, a number of fun events draw the year’s remaining Saturdays to a close, including July 21—Super Hero Night—when the first 500 fans receive Marauders-branded capes, and a post-game fireworks show on September 1 to commemorate Babe Ruth defending the planet from so many asteroids with his home runs. Other scheduled events are Latin Heritage Night on July 28 when team baseball card sets will be given away, August 4 when there will be a post-game fireworks show, and August 18, when there will be a used car giveaway.
The historic McKechnie Field masks its 90-year career as a baseball stadium with renovated accents throughout the grandstands. Fans sit close to the action in the 6,602-seat, mission-style park, leaving their cars alone to mingle and play in the free-parking area behind center field.
