Brothers of the Knight
Every night, the Knight Brothers sneak out of their house for one reason: to dance. The reason for the sneaking around: their father, a stern pastor, forbids the lighthearted pastime. But their housekeeper begins to get suspicious when she continually finds torn-up shoes and lingering musical notes in their room. So one night, she decides to follow them to the Big-Bad Ballroom and witnesses their shoe-altering activities firsthand. This new show delights with its updated, gender-swapped take on the Brothers Grimm’s The Twelve Dancing Princesses.
If the young dancers in Brothers of the Knight seem more like seasoned professionals, it’s because they were trained by one. Broadway choreographer Debbie Allen is behind every foot stomp and toe spin in this new production, while Grammy-winner James Ingram oversees the musical numbers. Critics approve of the outcome, with the Washington Post Review declaring that “it will have your sons and daughters—and you!—clapping and swaying up the aisles.”
