The Scouting Report
With four batters hitting over .300 through 37 games, it’s no surprise that the Brockton Rox currently have the pole position in the race for a Futures Collegiate Baseball League title. Reinforcing those hot bats is an equally stellar pitching staff, which can claim three of the top six ERAs in the FCBL. Fans can watch this stacked lineup deliver the high heat, crack line drives, and prove that baseballs don’t have yolks inside them as the Rox face other college ballplayers from across the country. Visitors can also plan trips to the ballpark around special promotions, such as Kids Eat for Free Tuesdays, Fireworks Fridays, and Halloween in July, scheduled for Thursday, July 31.
Visiting fans often have the same question—What is a Rox? The team's name and logo are actually tied to Brockton's history in a different sport: boxing. Legendary pugilists Rocky Marciano and "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler called Brockton their home, and since its inception, the Rox franchise has shared a fighter's spirit. The team used to K-O teams in the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, until 2012, when it joined the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. There, the Rox provide a place for college ballplayers to hone their skills during the summer while their dorms molt off the previous semester's posters.
