With the kind of face that screams “Where have I seen that guy before?” comedian Tom Papa has been a fixture of film, TV, and radio for almost 15 years. A regular collaborator with Jerry Seinfeld—and other Seinfeld veterans—Papa has been seen and heard opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus in The New Adventures of Old Christine, with Seinfeld himself in Bee Movie, and as the host of the Seinfeld-produced reality show The Marriage Ref. But his most surprising collaborator may be the Kramer of Corpses, horror impresario Rob Zombie, who produced both his first solo special Tom Papa Live in New York City and his follow-up, Tom Papa: Freaked Out, which landed on Laughspin.com’s “10 Best Comedy Albums of 2013.”
The Carolina Theatre of Durham
One of the few original theaters in Durham to remain in operation, The Carolina Theatre has endured more than 85 years of history in its quest to entertain. The venue's main room, Fletcher Hall, rose in popularity during World War II, when soldiers from Camp Butner arrived by bus to watch films on its colossal screen. In the last three decades, ongoing renovations have restored the venue to its original glory while propelling it into contemporary times with the addition of modern accoutrements, including two upstairs movie screens, stage-level dressing rooms, and landing pads on the roof for skateboard hovercrafts.
