What You'll Do
Tequila may be a staple at every bar in the United States, but mezcal—its smoky, complex brethren—remains a mystery to those who aren't well-versed in Mexican culture. Fresh off a recent trip to Mexico, cocktail maven Chantal Martineau shares bottles of authentic, agave-distilled spirits, discusses the history of the libations, and compares their different flavor profiles. After the tasting, you'll put your knowledge to the test by mixing artisanal cocktails of your own.

Author of a Forthcoming Book on Tequila
Chantal Martineau began to study cocktails while living in London as a travel writer, a path that led her to discover her liquid muse: tequila. She immediately became infatuated with the subjects of tequila and mezcal, which inspired her to trace their evolution from family-farm drinks to the global exports they have become. She's also the author of an upcoming book on the history of tequila, adding to any already impressive résumé that includes works published in Decanter, The Atlantic, and Wine Enthusiast.
