Chicago

Filled with cool jazz, cold crimes, and dry humor, the acclaimed, long-running Broadway revival of Chicago continues to sizzle on stage. Aspiring starlet Roxie Hart attempts to spin murder into notoriety and notoriety into fame in this satirical tale on the seductive powers of corruption. The music and lyrics, penned by famed tunesmiths John Kander and Fred Ebb, find their sultry match in dances inspired by original choreographer Bob Fosse—a combination that earned the revival six Tony awards when Roxie, rival siren Velma Kelly, and the rest of the merry murderesses first raised their pistols in 1996.

Chicago’s cast has been spangled with many stars, and its current lineup is not without its share of luster. John Dossett will make his debut engagement as Billy Flynn, while Charlotte d’Amboise is making a special return as Roxie Hart, for only 14 performances beginning January 22, stepping in for Bianca Marroquin. Dossett is slated for a 10–week limited run at the Ambassador Theatre, January 19 through March 29. He takes over from John O’Hurley, who will play his final performance on January 18. As of February 2, the production gets a new Roxie, as Grammy-winning Sugarland chanteuse Jennifer Nettles steppinglide-steps into her vicious pumps until March 29. An ensemble of Broadway stalwarts joins them for instantly recognizable songs such as “All That Jazz,” “Class,” and the cheekily sinister “Cell Block Tango.”
