The Scouting Report
Chivas USA fans have had the privilege of witnessing Erick “Cubo” Torres blossom into an international super star throughout the season. The 21-year-old striker—whose 14 goals leads the team—was named the second-best rising talent on Major League Soccer’s annual 24 under 24 list. Recently, his efforts earned him a call to join the Mexican National Team.
Torres headlines a Red-and-White roster brimming with young talent, as well as veteran mainstays. That includes the club’s longest serving player, goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, who defends the net with swift footwork and quick hands instead of a pack of Dobermans. On Saturday, October 11, Chivas fans can watch Kennedy and his teammates defend the Stubhub Center turf against the Colorado Rapids during their second-to-last home match of the season.
Chivas USA joined Major League Soccer in 2005, and they didn’t waste any time establishing themselves as perennial contenders. In 2006, the club began a four-year stretch of playoff appearances, highlighted by a Western Conference title in 2007. Five years later, the Goats made a deep run in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, reaching the semi-final round of the century-old tournament for the second time in club history. For all their success on the pitch, Chivas USA has been just as impactful off of it, recognized more than once for their community grassroots efforts.
