What You'll Do
The honeybee is in crisis, and Christi Baughman explains why during this hands-on journey into the hive. But she also demonstrates how beekeeping at a local level can help address that crisis. After you put on the appropriate protective gear, Baughman opens up a few of her 100 hives so that you can observe colony activity and sample honey fresh from its source.
Beekeeper Christi Baughman teaches you about the honeybee's anatomy and how it produces honey.
Look Inside the Hive
You'll don a provided beekeeper suit and gloves to peek inside working beehives, where you'll learn to identify workers, drones, and the queen.
Leave the experience with honey samples in two-ounce jars, as well as seeds for growing honeybee-friendly flowers.
Christi Baughman has been fascinated with honeybees for most of her life. She eventually turned that passion into a profession by beginning to keep hives of her own, and by teaching others to do the same. Today, she manages 100 honeybee hives and runs beegirl.biz, a site selling honey and beekeeping-related products.
