The Story: With fairies, comic stepsisters, and a secretly powerful beggar, this unique production adds a little extra magic to the tale of a servant girl who loses a slipper and the prince who finds it.
The History: The original “Cinderella” ballet was commissioned at the onset of World War II in Russia but was not completed until 2 months before the war’s end. When it debuted in Moscow, the tapestry of waltzes, pas de deux, and mazurkas were all slightly infected by the discord of the world at that time. This reimagined production of “Cinderella” is a light-hearted affair that engages the audience with its humor, charm, and even audience participation.
The Fine Print
About Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre
For more than fifty years, the acclaimed Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre has brought classical and contemporary dance to the delta. Each season includes productions from their local company and traveling troupes, ensuring an artistically eclectic mix of shows that might see Cinderella hosted alongside a modern premiere. An annual staging of The Nutcracker: A Tale from the Bayou puts a local spin on a holiday favorite by transporting the timeless fairy tale to 19th century Louisiana.
