The Scouting Report
Head coach Mike Haviland—formerly the assistant coach to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010—returns this October for his second season leading the Tigers. The revamped squad includes 14 newcomers sure to benefit from Coach Haviland’s wealth of experience with the Hawks, which included devising game plans and refilling the Stanley Cup with chili every morning. This pair of games against UMass allows the team to hone its on-ice chemistry before NCHC conference play begins in earnest.
Colorado College Tigers
The athletic program at Colorado College can trace its traditions all the way back to the 19th century, when the first sporting event was held on Christmas Day, 1882. Today, Colorado College's men and women continue this competitive tradition in 17 sports, ranging from basketball and lacrosse to cross country and ice hockey. The ice hockey team gradually established themselves as a national powerhouse since their founding in 1934, with two championships and ten Frozen Four appearances, most recently in 2005. What's more, nearly 40 former Tiger hockey players have played for an NHL team.
