Sunday Night Live (most Sundays at 9 p.m.)
Just like the television series Saturday Night Live, except that it’s on Sunday and doesn’t require Lorne Michaels’s approval, this weekly sketch show can feature a guest host, a musical guest, a news segment à la Weekend Update, and memorable characters who may someday get their own movie spinoff.
Wheel of Improv (most Tuesdays at 8 p.m.)
Like the television series Wheel of Fortune without the puzzles, prizes, and overpriced vowels, this weekend comedy game show pits Bad Dog faculty and students in noncompetitive—but actually pretty competitive—bouts of improv.
Catch23 (most Fridays at 8 p.m.)
During “Toronto’s deadliest pit fight,” teams from across the city put on their silliest game faces and duke it out against house players. The goal? To get the most people laughing. The judges? The audience (and a few resident experts). And the winner not only takes home all the laughs they inspire, they also get to return for the next battle.
The producers at Comedy Bar populate their main stage and cabaret space with local and nationally touring acts that have helped them earn accolades such as Best Comedy Club from the readers of Now. The main stage holds weekly improv bouts and comedic rap battles, whereas the intimate cabaret space doubles as a classroom for standup and sketch-writing workshops. The venue's servers, meanwhile, fuel laughs with a well-stocked menu of pub grub, and draft beers from local breweries including Mill Street and Sleeman join in the revelry by giggling when poured.
