To say that Donald Moscowitz has overbearing parents is an understatement. It would be more accurate to say they disapprove of everything their son does. They hate that he’s an actor, despise his preference for pastels, and absolutely object to his homosexuality. In fact, there’s really only one thing Donald could do to make them happy: give them a grandchild. So he does just that. Since the year is 1982 and there hasn’t yet been a sitcom plot to tell him that it’s a terrible idea, he makes a deal with the 10-year-old boy downstairs: cold hard cash to play the part of his son.
Written by Marshall Goldberg (The Manufacturer’s Daughter) and directed by David Goldyn (associate producer of Broadway’s Honeymoon in Vegas), Daddy Issues hangs its comedy on a star-studded cast. Mary Ellen Ashley, who starred in the original Broadway cast of Annie Get Your Gun stars alongside Alex Ammerman (Broadway’s Mothers and Sons), Tony Rossi (Boardwalk Empire), and Yuval David (Bunbury at Abingdon Theatre) as the brilliant Donald.
