European explorers were so impressed by the natural splendor of the New World that they immediately penned songs such as "America the Beautiful" and "Happy Birthday," which was originally written for an oak tree. The Dallas Arboretum’s Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn dazzles audiences with its sprawl of stunning, plant-based pageantry and its ideal concert-venue space. Tote picnic blankets, low-to-the-ground chairs, and lofty expectations to warm-weather, two-hour musical performances that bounce tunes off grateful eardrums and the adjacent White Rock Lake. On Tuesday, July 19 concertgoers can shimmy to Signed Sealed Delivered's lineup of party tunes, which has been known to include soul classics by Wilson Pickett and disco hits by KC and the Sunshine Band. Key West will pepper the lawn with Caribbean sounds on Thursday, July 21, and Satisfaction's striking resemblance to the Rolling Stones will make jaws drop and Mick Jagger altars tumble on Tuesday, July 26. The summer season wraps up with a performance by the M80s, who will croon '80s hits to crowds of star-struck azaleas. In addition to soaking up sounds, guests can compete for prizes at each show by checking in on Foursquare or dressing up like their favorite tropical cocktail.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

Spread across 66 acres on the shores of White Rock Lake, Dallas Arboretum's themed gardens showcase the broad biodiversity of Texas' unique climate. The gardens' lush plantings and eye-catching vistas have earned the arboretum numerous accolades, including a spot on Travel Channel's list of "Best Botanical Gardens in the US." The Nancy Rutchik Red Maple Rill includes a century-old Japanese maple. Landscaping work is showcased as well: A Woman's Garden has won national acclaim for its garden rooms, reflecting pool, and floral displays. The Arboretum has four major festivals a year: Dallas Blooms, which showcases more than 500,000 spring blooming bulbs, Summer Flower Village, Pumpkin Village, and The 12 Days of Christmas display. Their eight-acre Rory Meyer's Children's Adventure Garden opened in 2012.
