Dancing Pros Live!
The recipe for Dancing Pros Live! packs more heat than a habanero stew. Golden Globe–nominated Growing Pains star Alan Thicke hosts more than a dozen performers from ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, and professional stages across the globe. Dancers such as So You Think You Can Dance finalist Ryan DiLello, Dancing with the Stars competitor Chelsie Hightower, and Dance Temptation star Edyta Sliwinska form five couples who perform solos in two rounds, draped in colorful costumes and lights. Dazzling with waltzes, cha-chas, and freestyle routines, they vie for the audience’s live vote, hoping to take home the night’s trophy and a bouquet of blown kisses.
Between rounds, performers from American Idol and NBC’s The Voice wow with vocal gold, and judges give their expert opinions on the choreography. The result: what People’s Monica Rizzo describes as “top notch dancing from the best in the world.”
Providence Performing Arts Center
The Providence Performing Arts Center is a blending of eras, its architecture showcasing antiquated touches such as a gilded proscenium and a domed, amethyst-colored ceiling, as well as a full-color LED marquee above the building’s entrance. It’s all a part of lengthy renovation that restored the theater to its former opulence–it opened in 1928 as a Loew’s movie palace. A 51’ projection screen retains this cinematic spirit by showing films and rare home footage of Clark Gabel plucking his mustache. But the venue mainly hosts live events, from nationally touring musicals to standup comics.
