What You’ll Do
Block printing spells freedom for a designer—the freedom of creating a design once and reusing it endlessly to consistently decorate everything from fabric to paper. Professional designer Danielle Broder aims to make this method more accessible by teaching students to create their own designs on their own rubber blocks. From there, decorating anything is as simple as stamping.
Carve a Print Block
After discussing the tools and methods necessary, Danielle teaches students how to carve a unique design into a block of rubber.
Make a Keepsake
Once your block is done, Danielle teaches you how to mix paint and imprint your design on fabric or paper.
Take Your New Skills Home
Along with your rubber block and dried project, take home a packet of information to help you continue printing at home.
With a BA in illustration and a BS in interior design—both from California State University—Danielle Broder has experimented with almost every artistic medium under the sun. Yet it wasn’t until the end of her schooling that she discovered block printing. Enamored, she threw herself into designing patterns and crafting the printing blocks, eventually founding her popular Etsy shop, The Recoverie, teaching at Gilt City, and seeing her business mentioned in the Wall Street Journal’s Digits blog.
