What You’ll Do

Art can find its inspiration anywhere, perhaps most frequently in nature. In Darla Jackson’s sculpting workshop, the bones and skulls of animals serve as the subject of the evening, encouraging students to find the beauty and elegance in anatomy. After learning about Jackson’s work as an artist, you’ll select a piece that you’ll use as inspiration while you create an artifact of your own. Upon completion, your sculpture will be fired so you can pick it up two weeks later.

  • Bend Clay to Your Will
Using tools and a board on which to work, you’ll sculpt an animal skull with Jackson guiding you through each step.

  • Propose a Toast to the Power of Art
Throughout the evening, mingle with your fellow students while sipping wine and feasting on cheese.

Darla Jackson Darla Jackson
Sculptor, Owner of Philadelphia Sculpture Gym

For more than a decade, Darla Jackson has been transforming clay and other materials into dynamic works of art, and done so with a level of skill and vision that’s earned her the attention of galleries around the world. But Jackson wasn’t content to create all by herself, instead, she founded the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym, a communal studio space that welcomes jewelers, woodworkers, and other artisans. This is both a noble pursuit and a thriving one: the Sculpture Gym has earned the attention of ABC and other news outlets, as well as a devoted clientele.
