Theater challenges audiences by blending the real and the imaginary, much like a neighbor who accuses you of giving her goiters with your brain. Enhance reality with this GrouponLive deal to see Girls Night: The Musical at the Akron Civic Theatre. For $17, you get one ticket for orchestra-level seating on Saturday, January 26, at 8 p.m. (a $34 value). Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Girls Night: The Musical plots five friends center stage as they ponder their past, celebrate the present, and silently think about robot designs for the future during one comedic night of karaoke. After sold-out runs in Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale and plugs on NBC and the Lifetime network, the acclaimed musical heads to Akron for a limited engagement. As actresses harmonize to suffragette anthems such as “Lady Marmalade,” “It’s Raining Men,” and “I Will Survive” amid vibrant set pieces, audiences laugh, cry, and dance as the theater transforms into a besties convention.
Girls Night: The Musical – Show Highlights
E.J. Thomas Hall
Since 1973, The University of Akron's E.J. Thomas Hall has been the center of Akron's performing arts scene. The three-level facility, which occupies three acres of The University of Akron campus, boasts a massive, 44-ton movable ceiling that can shift to enclose the first or second levels. The position of the ceiling has a dramatic effect on the hall's volume and acoustics, so it is controlled by a computer precisely managing 27 counterweights. The hall's ability to transform from an intimate one-level performance space to a vast three-level concert hall allows it to host performances of a variety of sizes and styles by university students and faculty as well as the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Tuesday Musical Association, the Children’s Concert Society, and the Akron Youth Symphony.
