After appearing in the Western Division championship series in 2011, the Holyoke Blue Sox return to Mackenzie Stadium in pursuit of another chance at the 2012 title. As members of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, the Blue Sox pluck talent fresh from the NCAA, developing their talent until they gain the control over their elastic arms needed to make it in the Major Leagues. All six of their 2011 Western Division All-Star team picks—including pitcher Ben Mount and first baseman Trey Mancini—are eligible to return this year to play alongside their 6-foot canine mascot, Big Red.

The team wields homefield advantage at Mackenzie Stadium, a venue that can seat more than 4,000 fans or 30 anti-T-shirt missile silos. The 2012 schedule includes 42 home games with several themes, including nights to raise awareness for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society.

Holyoke Blue Sox

A member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League since 2008, the Blue Sox incubates top college players while they stay fresh and limber between seasons in the NCAA. Partially funded by Major League Baseball, the league consists of 10 teams across six New England states, all competing in a summer of hardball that begins in June and concludes with the playoffs in August, just before players trade in baseballs for rubber-band balls and return to school. Originally founded in 1997 as the Concord Quarry Dogs, the Blue Sox wield homefield advantage at Mackenzie Stadium, a venue that can seat more than 4,000 fans or 30 anti-T-shirt missile silos.
