What You’ll Do
A piece of metal, a hammer, and some instruction from Dejan Jovanovic are all it takes to create your own piece of stunning jewelry. It all starts with a tour of Torpedo Factory Art Center, where you’ll meet artists at work and view some of Dejan’s own handmade metal jewelry. The focus then shifts to a hands-on jewelry-making lesson, and Dejan demonstrates different hammering techniques before helping you make a ring of your own.
Meet Visual Artists
Dejan Jovanovic takes you on a tour of Torpedo Factory Art Center and introduces you to some of the other visual artists at work.
Jewelry Making’s Past and Present
Learn about ancient and contemporary jewelry-making techniques, and feel free to ask Dejan any questions.
Hammer Your Own Ring
Dejan supplies you with a silver band and helps you hammer it into a ring, which you take home at the end of the session.
Metalsmith and Jewelry Designer
Dejan Jovanovic can’t imagine a life without art and creativity. In his childhood, he helped sculpt monuments with his father, who was a talented sculptor. This fostered a deep passion and appreciation for visual art, leading Dejan to earn an MFA in Metal Design from East Carolina University. In more than 20 years as an artist, Dejan has worked on everything from large-scale sculptures to unique pieces of metal jewelry, and his work has been profiled in numerous publications, including Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine.
