Pearl Jam

(Saturday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Monday, August 22 at 7:30 p.m.)

  • Some stats on Pearl Jam’s imaginary baseball card: 60 million albums sold worldwide; 2 Grammy Awards won; 10 studio albums released; worldwide recognition as legendary musical influences and philanthropic heroes
  • Hits you’re likely to hear: early favorites such as “Jeremy,” “Even Flow,” “Alive,” and “Daughter,” plus gems from the band’s lengthy catalog, some surprising covers, and perhaps some tunes tailored to Wrigley audiences
  • Seventh-inning stretch: Make sure you’re limber, because Pearl Jam is notorious for marathon performances.

Billy Joel

(Friday, August 26 at 8 p.m.)

  • Some stats on Joel’s imaginary baseball card: sixth best-selling recording artist and third best-selling solo artist of all time; 150 million albums sold; six Grammys (including a Grammy Legend Award); 33 Top 40 hits
  • Hits you’re likely to hear: “Piano Man,” “Uptown Girl,” “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song),” and perhaps some surprising covers (he performed AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” last season)

Luke Bryan

(Saturday, August 27 at 5 p.m.)

  • The man: a Georgia native who found his way from the family farm to the heart of the Nashville music scene
  • The music: it spans from heart-on-the-sleeve sincerity (“Rain Is a Good Thing”) to crowd-pleasing party anthems (“Country Girl [Shake It for Me]”)
  • Trophy case: He’s claimed multiple “Entertainer of the Year” awards and has 14 number-one singles to his name
  • His latest: 2015’s Kill the Lights, which finds a more mature Bryan pushing forward with his spring-break anthems decidedly in the rearview mirror
  • Songs to check out from his new album: “Strip It Down” and “Kick the Dust Up,” both of which soared to the top of the charts

Down the Line Rooftop

Sometimes, you go to a party and a baseball game breaks out. At least that’s how it goes at Down the Line Rooftop, where baseball fans can take in Cubs home games while enjoying classic ballpark food and cool drinks. Located just behind the right-field foul pole, Down the Line spreads out across the roof of one of Wrigleyville’s oldest buildings. Its lounge-style seating encourages a social atmosphere with VIP couches and wrought iron tables and chairs, and its menu keeps fans full with half-pound burgers, Chicago-style hotdogs, and a variety of beers, wines, and sodas. Plus, at just 448 feet from home plate, it sits closer to the action than other rooftops and the fifth umpire watching through binoculars from the John Hancock Center.
