Humans have been putting spherical objects in hoops for centuries, but until the invention of the dunk, the fast break, and face dribbling, it wasn’t an activity worth watching. See if “basketball” lives up to the hype with today’s GrouponLive deal to see the Duquesne Dukes take on the Dayton Flyers at the A.J. Palumbo Center on Wednesday, February 22, at 7 p.m. For $13, you get a basketball outing for one (a $26 total value), which includes:
- One ticket for seating in the red chair-back sections (a $20 value)
- One hot dog (a $3 value)
- One Pepsi (a $3 value)
- One complimentary Duquesne Dukes t-shirt (sizes based on availability)<p>
The 2011–12 season of Duquesne Dukes men’s basketball boils to a fever pitch in a key conference battle less than a month before the Atlantic 10 tournament that leads to the championship in Atlantic City. Before an arena swathed in complimentary red threads, the Dukes’ roster rallies for an inspiring performance from sophomore T.J. McConnell. Last season, the 2011 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year sank more than 300 points and snatched nearly three steals per game, mostly by fooling opponents with fake mustaches resembling those of his teammates. Upperclassmen Sean Johnson and B.J. Monteiro join McConnell in a backcourt that protects the ball with a 6.1 turnover margin, better than all but two other NCAA teams. Local music group Formula412 will also be on hand to perform its inspirational jam “Rise Up: The Dukes are Back,” which was written specifically for Duquesne University Athletics and any noblemen triumphantly returning home from the grocery store.
