The Scouting Report
On October 11, the women of E-Ville Roller Derby will return to the rink at Edmonton Sports Dome to begin a 10-bout season that stretches into June of next year. The last time the league’s skates hit the floor was on May 31, when the Slice Girls topped the Las Pistolitas to win the championship. Driven by revenge, the Las Pistolitas will enter this opening bout determined to prove last season’s loss was simply an anomaly. Co-captains Twiggie and Breaking Babz will lead the charge against the up-and-coming Berzerkhers, who will rely on co-captains Bloody Cooper and ZZ Topless to lead them to victory and around the track should the coach forget to hand out directions.
E-Ville Roller Derby
E-Ville Roller Derby formed in 2006 in order to offer women in the Edmonton area an alternative sporting option. Now a member of the Canadian Women’s Roller Derby Association, the league has grown significantly since then to include three house teams and an all-star traveling team.
In order to keep its rosters stocked with talent, E-Ville introduced its “Fresh Meat” program. Here, members teach newcomers the ins and outs of the game. They school prospective players in skating, game strategy, and teamwork, all of which come in handy on the track so long as one of the opposing players isn’t driving a bulldozer. For those not satisfied with sitting on the sidelines, the program will have a new “Fresh Meat” intake in November; contact the league for further information.
