Seeing one of your favorite bands is a transcendent experience, like seeing your favorite actor play your favorite president. Spoil your senses with this GrouponLive deal to see headliner Puddle of Mudd perform at Eagle River Mudfest at Eagle River Derby Track. For $19, you get one general-admission ticket for Saturday, May 19, at 5:30 p.m. (a $30 value). Gates open at 4 p.m., and performances are rain or shine.
The throttling of the snowmobile engines that typically tears through Eagle River Derby Track gives way this May to the shredding of guitars for the Eagle River Mudfest. Billed as four days of music, movies, and mud, the fest shines its acoustical spotlight on Saturday's main stage, where Puddle of Mudd headlines with a catalog that spans more than a decade. Guitarist and lead vocalist Wesley Reid Scantlin scrapes a gritty edge onto lyrics in such hits as "Blurry" from 2001's multiplatinum album, Come Clean.
Before Wes and his bandmates take the stage, lead singer Brett Scallions helms the mic for Fuel, as the band returns with its original members. This return marks a new beginning for the outfit that topped the charts with hits such as “Shimmer” and “Hemorrhage (In My Hands).” Also performing are the winners of a quad-state Battle of the Bands, which plucked entrants from Chicago, Madison, Minneapolis, and other cities where guitar picks are classified as deadly weapons.
During the remainder of the Eagle River Mudfest, crowds get dirty in a slew of mud sports, from mud soccer to tug of war, and gather at Vilas Cinemas for good, clean, silver-screen viewing. The festival benefits Angel on My Shoulder, a group that organizes weekend retreats for children whose loved ones have been affected by cancer.
