Kyle Marlett moved to Las Vegas at the tender age of 17, armed only with deft hands and a dream of prestidigital stardom, as he told Vegas Seven. Now, as The Original Nerd of Magic, he headlines a weekly act with a repertoire of card tricks, optical illusions, and unnerving nostril tricks, which earned him a fancy meal when he hammered a screwdriver into his nose for Jay Leno. The steel-schnozzed spellbinder is a lifelong lover of Charlie Chaplin: his tattoo of the silent great dovetails with his onstage tributes to classic slapstick, from staging mute, gestural tricks to getting digitally remastered before each show. Marlett never lets up his easygoing banter, even as playing cards self-replicate, water bottles spontaneously change color, and dental floss explores uncharted facial territory.
