Satirical & vaudevillian comedy revue slays audiences in exciting showcase of steadfast lampoonery

Although it’s been ostracized by the five traditional senses, the sense of humor is the only thing that enables human beings to detect a rubber chicken creeping up from behind. Stay on guard with today’s GrouponLive deal: for $22, you get two general-admission tickets to Esther's Follies on Friday, October 21, at 10 p.m. (a $44 value).

The Esther's Follies troupe fashions a lively and charismatic variety show out of music, magic, and comedy, wowing visitors and Austin Chronicle critics alike. Vaudevillian in nature, the production busts guts in record speed with satirical quips on current events, relevant parodies, and high-stepping, fast-paced comedy sketches. Resident magician Ray Anderson keeps things light with levitation illusions known even to dazzle crowds of hovercraft and driftwood.

As a special October treat, Esther's ushers in the season of the witch with the Baraky Horror Picture Show, a spine-tingling musical hootenanny about the muggy political climate. While the Follies cast ignites into choral skewerings of front-page newsmakers, audiences will laugh so hard that giggles come out of their noses.

About Esther's Follies

Although Esther's Follies' variety show of music, magic, and comedy recalls the vaudevillian entertainment of yesteryear (albeit with a more acerbic modern bent), the nostalgia goes beyond just the performances. The longstanding venue and comedy troupe was named after Esther Williams, the Golden Age starlet whose career as a professional swimmer led to numerous iconic MGM films. Posters for several of these pictures are plastered throughout the space, and an undersea mural bustling with brightly-hued coral, kaleidoscopic marine life, and even a Loch Ness monster further contributes to Esther's otherworldly, aquatic theme. The magical environment, along with the shows themselves, have wowed audiences and Austin Chronicle critics alike.

On the production end, Esther's Follies busts guts in record speed with satirical quips on current events; relevant parodies; and high-stepping, fast-paced comedy sketches. Resident magician Ray Anderson keeps things light with levitation illusions known to dazzle crowds. As the Follies cast ignites into choral skewerings of front-page newsmakers, audiences will laugh so hard that giggles come out their noses.
